“The moment someone sees your work for what it truly is…
you start believing in it a little more yourself.”

The next morning, college felt like another world.
The chatter of friends, the sound of chalk against the blackboard, the smell of chai from the canteen — everything was just as it had been before she’d run off to Mumbai.
But she wasn’t the same anymore.
As her professor droned on about literature analysis, her thoughts kept drifting back to her inbox — to that one sent email sitting there without a reply.
Every few minutes, she checked her phone under the desk.
Nothing yet.
By lunchtime, she sat with her friends near the canteen, pretending to laugh, though her heart was somewhere else.
Then her phone rang.
Her breath caught when she saw the name flashing on the screen:
Mihir Sehgal.
She stood up so suddenly her friends stared.
“Uh—important call!” she mumbled, running toward the empty hallway.
“Hello?” her voice trembled.
“Niyati?” came Mihir’s warm voice. “I just read your scenes.”
Her heart almost stopped. “Y-yes, sir?”
A small pause. Then—
“They’re beautiful. Honest, emotional, and sharp. You’ve grown as a writer already.”
Tears pricked her eyes instantly. “Thank you, sir. Thank you so much!”
“I want you to keep developing the story,” he said. “I’m sending some notes. And Niyati… don’t rush back to your college life too much. You’ve got something rare. Keep nurturing it.”
She nodded, though he couldn’t see it. “I will, sir. I promise.”
When the call ended, she stood there frozen — a trembling smile spreading across her face.
She wanted to scream, to dance, to tell the world — but she just pressed her hand over her heart and whispered,
“I did it.”

Later that evening, on set, Mihir was in a good mood. The crew noticed his light steps, his rare smile.
Avyaan, taking a short break, walked into the director’s cabin.
“Good day?” he asked casually.
Mihir looked up from his laptop. “Oh, it’s been a great day. Remember Niyati Verma? The girl who wrote that script?”
Avyaan’s attention sharpened instantly. “Yeah… what about her?”
“She sent me the new scenes last night,” Mihir said, leaning back with a grin. “And let me tell you — they’re good. The girl’s improving fast. There’s a rawness that you can’t teach.”
Avyaan’s lips curved into a small smile he couldn’t hide.
“That’s… really nice to hear.”
“She might have a future in this industry,” Mihir continued. “If she keeps this up, I’m thinking of developing a short film version first. Test her skills on camera.”
Avyaan nodded slowly, hiding the quiet pride in his eyes.
“That sounds perfect. She deserves the chance.”
As he walked out of the cabin, his phone buzzed with new messages, but he didn’t open them.
Instead, he looked out at the fading Mumbai sky, and for the first time in a long while, he felt something he couldn’t name —
hope, warmth, maybe even admiration — all tied to one girl who’d chased her dream fearlessly.
